The Clear version of the Iceman statue is a veritable dream for the majority of collectors: in fact, its rarity is comparable with that of the most sought-after pieces of the Bowen catalogue and wheh you are lucky enough to find it, the quotations are always really notable. Undoubtedly, the limited edition of only 300 copies worldwide helps to make the statue very rare, but the feeling is that if even the run had been larger the situation would not have been too different. The real problem, in fact, is that the aesthetic impact and the charm of this piece are truly unique and all of collectors who have it at home tend to keep it tight! Sculpted by Mark Newman and released in 2007, the statue represents the Website Exclusive version of the Iceman Statue, which it differs from only for the edition size (300 samples, as mentioned, compared to the 1500 pieces of the classic version) and, above all, the use of a transparent resin, particularly suitable to represent the youngest member of the X-Men. The statue depicts the character as he often appears in the tables of Comics: Iceman, in fact, is placed on an icy wake (which he creates to move quickly) and exhibits a very athletic pose, twisting on the legs and dynamically following the spiral of the support. The left arm is stretched down, with the open and straightened hand generating the necessary jet to the progressive formation of the wake, while the right one is bent up and backwards to achieve the right balance, with clenched fist in an attack attitude. The physique is elegant and slim, with well proportioned muscles on shoulders, arms and legs and very well-defined abdominals. The face is wonderful: it is characterized by very youthful somatic traits, with a squared forehead and the (very picturesque) white of eyes and mouth, here refined by a darker bluish edge. But, of course, the real strength of the piece is the transparency which characterizes the whole figure and the numerous, spectacular internal blue veins, presumably obtained by mixing an appropriate dye to the transparent resin. The resulting effect is excellent, both in terms of brightness and aesthetic impact of the piece and in terms of realism and similarity to what should be a true man made of ice! The small jet emerging from the left hand is made of a more opaque and translucent resin, while the helicoidal base is completely opaque and colored by a quite pale blue color, enriched along the edge with small pyramid spikes, in order to emphasize the appearance of an icy surface. The helix ends with a circular platform, where the classic X of the mutant's team is well visible and engraved with other geometric figures. With no doubt (and I'm not the only one to think so) a base realized in the same manner of the figure (transparent with blue, inner veins) would have been more spectacular and appropriate to the whole, but probably Bowen decided to limit the costs of production by simply adopting the same base of the classic version and minimizing the use of the expensive (and more fragile) transparent resin. Nonetheless, in my opinion, the Iceman Clear is one of the best Bowen statues ever and a collectible of an unusual top-class level: it combines a great sculpt and the charm of a very dynamic pose to the originality and aesthetics of uncommon materials, used in a superb way to achieve an aesthetic impact really above average. These features easily explain the incredible success of the statue and its rarity on the market: a true masterpiece and a must-have for all collectors.
